Hazara Union Denmark
This is a brief history of Hazara Union Denmark. The first group of Hazaras came to Denmark in 1966. They were from Quetta, Pakistan and by 1969-70 more junior and senior groups joined them. The numbers increased gradually. They chose Denmark to be their next home. Hazaras arrived from Afghanistan and Iran as well. These pioneers soon felt the need for having a gathering centre because they could not fit in the tiny apartments. So they began searching for a bigger place, which had to be enough for events such as Muharram and Eid festivals. When they found a place of their own, they formed Hazara Union in 1970, which is one of the oldest Unions in Denmark. They named this Union “Hazara Forening”. The foundation of Hazara Unity was built with good intentions so they are as strong as their early days. Today there are almost 300 members. Majority of the members get together on every occasion whether it’s a cultural, national, political or religious gathering, hence the ultimate goal is to meet each other and take part in all activities.
According to the constitution of Hazara union there should be a general election amongst the members every 4th year. The elected cabinet / executive will normally consist of 7-9 members.
President, vice president general secretary and cashier are the authorised members to deal the official works and they meet every week to prosecute the official work of the union. Each year in January the members are informed about the Income and Expenditure of the Union. The account can be audited by 2 internal auditors at any time if they feel that the account provided to them is not a satisfying one. Funds are normally released to Hazara Union from the Government when audited account is provided by the internal auditors and the authorised Danish advocate.
The photos shown below are of different sections of Hazara Union and the activities.
